It's an exciting sprint to the Velux 5 Oceans finish line between Stamm and Shiraishi 30/4/07
Bernard Stamm (Cheminees Poujoulat) and Kojiro Shiraishi (Spirit of Yukoh) are expected to cross the finish line of the third and final leg of the Velux 5 Oceans early this evening in Bilbao, Basque country.
The latest position report indicates that Swiss sailing skipper Bernard Stamm onboard Cheminees Poujoulat was 57 miles away from the finish of the Velux 5 Oceans. Sailing at the average speed of 13 knots, he should cross the finish line in the next four to five hours.
Japanese skipper Kojiro Shiraishi onboard Spirit of Yukoh was 73 miles away from the finish of the Velux 5 Oceans. Sailing at the average speed of 12 knots, he should cross the finish line in the next six hours.
After 11 days at sea since he left Norfolk (Virginia, USA), 43 year old Bernard Stamm looks set to take first place of the final leg of the Velux 5 Oceans, and be the overall winner of the Velux 5 Oceans for the second time in four years. But with only 16 miles between them, the race is not over yet?
