Pete Goss and crew start to sail down the back of the system that is causing so much damage in the UK
1000, 8 December
After spending several days close to 60 degrees north, waiting for the passage of a huge slow moving depression, Team Philips has at last dived south towards the Mediterranean. Greenland is still their nearest land mass and they still have well over 1000 miles to sail as they make progress at 16-19 knots in heavy seas.
Meanwhile it has been officially announced that Richard Tudor, one of Pete Goss’s fellow British Steel Challenge skippers and more recently BT Challenge, has joined the crew to replace Mike Calvin.
