Day two sees Bribon stretch out a comfortable lead in the overall points Matthew Sheahan reports
Dean Barker’s first win of the Audi Medcup TP52 season launched the Spanish team into the lead in the overall standings thanks to a consistently good performance on the opening day. With a first, two thirds and a pair of fourths now on the score board, Bribon holds an eight point lead over second placed Quantum who have to carry a disappointing ninth from the first race of today’s proceedings.
While Barker and his team mates took pride in their new position at the head of the table in a boat that is a year old, (albeit with some modifications since last season), another team that returned to the dock with smiling faces was that of Peter de Ridder’s Mean Machine.
Scoring a last yesterday hit hard, but nailing two back to back wins today restored confidence in their radical new boat.
Conditions built through the day as the sea breeze boosted the light gradient breeze which built to a peak of 15-16 knots by the end of play.
Today’s video clip includes Barker’s views on Judge Cahn’s recent ruling on the America’s Cup before he comments on his teams performance aboard Bribon.
