Leading boats pass Land's End
The J/120 Jalfrezi, and Pyxis the X332 with an all girl crew, have passed Lands End and are leading the fleet in the Triangle Race which started from Torquay on Sunday. However, with a forecast of gale force winds, a couple of boats have taken cover including Janie Smallridge’s Albin Ballad Duchess, and Paul Rowlinson and Nick Metcalfe’s Swan 40 Bastet.
According to news from the boat this morning, Duchess has encountered a leak around the mast step and was forced to pull into Plymouth to allow repairs to be carried out. The other boat, the Swan 40 Bastet, is currently in Penzance taking shelter from the gale force winds which are likely to hit the area later today.
Both the boats in port are hoping to re-join the race, with Duchess expected to head straight for Treguier in France, the second stopover of the race, while Bastet will probably continue to Crosshaven.
