First IACC Boats arrive in Britain: The start of a new interest in Britain
The first International America’s Cup Class boat to be owned in Britain arrived at Hamble, Southampton Wednesday 19th July. John Caulcutt has bought Young America and will be sailing with her new name of Right Time in Cowes Week. Now at Hamble Yacht Services, John is getting her ready for a UK debut at the Skandia Life Cowes Week 25 July to 5 August. Sailing on Right Time will be many of the crew from John’s 80′ Maxima – including Don Wright (Jaws) and Gian Ahluwalia. Close on Young America’s/Right Time’s heels is a second IACC boat, Tag Heuer bought from America True and sailed as a trial boat for the 2000 regatta. A challenger in the 1995 America’s Cup challenger, she is a Bruce Farr design. She has been bought by Oyster Marine’s Richard Matthews and arrived Friday 20th July at Tilbury, before being shipped on to Ipswich, home of Oyster Yachts and will be renamed About Time. It is hoped that the profile given in the UK by these two boats will raise interest in a future British Challenge for the America’s Cup.
