A yachtsman has died after falling from a yacht during a passage from Fowey to Falmouth.

Falmouth Coastguard received a Mayday call at 11.10am on 20 October 2002 from the 28ft yacht ‘Petit Manualle’ when she was just one mile out of Falmouth in gale force winds. According to Falmouth Coastguards, one of the two crew members appears to have been struck on the head by the boom before falling overboard.

The missing crewmember has since been recovered and pronounced dead. The skipper of the yacht managed to sail to shore and was treated for shock.
