Alinghi wins Act 13 of the Louis Vuitton Cup and Kiwis are best of Challengers in the run up to the America's Cup
In another clear-cut demonstration of just how fast they are, Alinghi scored a second and a first in today’s racing to take Act 13 with ease. Emirates Team New Zealand’s performance was less emphatic but still good enough to make them the top challenger once again, displacing their nearest competition, BMW Oracle and Luna Rossa who are now ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.
But aside from the unbelievable pace that SUI-91 has and the rumour that their second boat is even quicker, the talk of the town this evening is of how much Mascalzone Latino have improved having finished Act 13 in 2nd position, beating their fellow countrymen aboard Luna Rossa. The latin rascals’ performance has pulled them up to 5th in the overall rankings and could make them a contender for a semi final slot in May.
Perhaps it’s risky to draw too many conclusions from the individual scores on the board for this fleet racing Act, after all getting buried at the start or boxed out at the weather mark is as painful for the pros at this level as it is for the rest of us in club land. But what we have seen is a glimpse of the progress that teams have, or have not made since last season, along with a clue as to who’s got what in the boat department.
Watch out for our analysis on the story so far.
In the meantime, butter up the boss, get ahead in your work and get ready for the start of Louis Vuitton Round Robin 1 on Monday 16 April.
