No change, no racing
Some people find the America’s Cup boring, a sentiment with which I disagree. But for the last three days the whole world has been finding it boring. Because for three consecutive days there has been inadequate breeze even to start a single race. This is supposedly the worst ever start to a Louis Vuitton Cup.
But is this so atypical for Valencia? On the one hand there are claims that over the last three years only eight days of racing have been lost because of too little or too much wind. On the other BMW Oracle Racing’s chief meteorologist Chris Bedford says that for this early in the season it’s not unusual.
‘In May 2004 we had a 5-days period like this’ And added ‘tomorrow also looks very light. I’m not optimisitc. Friday and Saturday should see improvements.’
The Louis Vuitton and America’s Cups might be the ultimate, most expensive and glitziest regattas on the planet. But without wind there is no show.
