Fifth medal for GBR, a Bronze this time from Board saillor Nick Dempsey
Another medal for the British team, this time it was Nick Dempsey in the sailboard class who came from behind, (well fourth), to snatch a bronze.
Men’s Windsurfer – Bronze
Nick Dempsey – A superb performance under pressure as he converts a fourth to a bronze medal, courtesy in part to the Brazilian sailor who had a shocker, dropped out of the medal zone altogether and allowed the top three board sailors to move up the fleet.
Women’s Windsurfer – 9th overall
Natasha Sturges – An 11th and a 9th moves Natasha up in the final rankings
Star – 7th overall
Iain Percy & Steve Mitchell – A horrible day afloat for the Star guys, light and very shifty with the potential for some nightmare results, such as their first race where they finished second to last at 16th, their new discard. Fortunately the duo pulled things back into shape for the second race, which was even lighter, to deliver a 5th. On the plus side, most of their main competition had bad results so the gap, although widened is still achievable.
Tornado – 14th Overall
Leigh McMillan & Mark Buckeley – An 8th and a 3rd move them up a place to 13th overall
49er – Currently 3rd overall (Bronze assured)
Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks – No sailing today – big final match tomorrow
DONE AND DUSTED
Finn – Ben Ainslie – Gold
Yngling – Shirley Robertson, Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb – Gold
470 Men – Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield – Silver
470 Women – Christina Bassadone and Katherine Hopson – 7th overall
Laser – Paul Goodison – 4th overall
Europe – Laura Baldwin – 23rd overall
