Is Annie Lush the ham in the sandwich of two fiercely competitive sisters? Matthew Sheahan talks to the British Women’s Elliott 6m match racing team
Olympic profile: Kate Macgregor
Early ambitions – “I’m quite interested in marketing and that’s what I was aiming at, but things have changed quite quickly”
How it all started – “I guess I first went afloat as a bump. I started in Oppies and then sailed Mirrors and 420s. Since then, aside from the match racing, I’ve been racing SB3s and RS200s as well as some keelboat racing”
Career Path – “The decision to take a gap year in 2011/12 wasn’t a difficult one. I’ve been at university and continuing my sailing up until now, but it is clear that next year is going to be much busier. My focus needs to be on the Games. The university has been really helpful, especially in giving me more time if I need it or allowing me to email my work in if I’m away”
Best/worst quality – “I’m focused and competitive, but I also get frustrated quite easily”
Hobbies and interests? – “I like watching athletics and also playing hockey when I can”
How do you relax? – “Catch up with friends and family”
What picks you up when you’re down? – “Either exercise or watching a chick flick”
What’s your plan ‘B’? – “To finish my degree and get a proper job – although I’d still rather go sailing”
